Avaliability

Alkimos to Success to Mundaring

Unfortunately, the need for euthanasia comes at inconvenient times when home euthanasia services are not readily available, especially during the weekend nights. I work in an emergency center, and often, I have to inform owners that a home euthanasia service is not available and they will have to present to an emergency centre for euthanasia or wait until the morning. Although euthanasia at a veterinary centre is appropriate, at-home euthanasia is considered the gold standard for euthanasia. Whilst at-home, the patient experiences less fear, and owners can express their grief more naturally. For some cases, waiting until the morning is not a viable option as certain disease processes are painful or lead to suffering. This is what inspired Farewell From Home - to provide an at-home euthanasia service regardless of the time or day, rather than forcing pets to wait until the morning or to be euthanised at a veterinary centre.

Farewell From Home offers their services 6 pm-6 am Friday, Saturday and Sunday (including Monday 12 am-6 am) from $550 regardless of the weight of your pet, the time and day or the suburb within the metropolitan area (Two Rocks to Success to Mundaring). If you require at-home euthanasia outside our servicable times, Dr Jarrod will try to accommodate your request, otherwise, the following list is several alternative home euthanasia services that operate during standard business hours.

Euthanasia aims to provide pets with a dignified passing, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. After the process is complete, pets can lose control of their bowels and bladder, as such, an absorbtive material is often placed at the rear.

Respect and dignity

Sedation

I believe in a two-step process to euthanasia, as most veterinarians do. The initial sedation ("zoletil") I provide a patient before I commence euthanasia is to prevent the patient from being aware of the euthanasia. When completed, the pet will be unable to feel the effects of the euthanasia agent ("lethobarb"), which slows the heart rate, respiratory rate and brain activity until the last breath is taken whilst the patient is asleep.

Some dogs and cats can become reactive to strangers present in their home to such a degree where the owners are unable to restrain the pet for the sedation. In these cases, for the safety of owners and our team, the service will be cancelled at no cost to the owner. Instead, the pet will need to be transported to an emergency veterinary centre where a team of veterinarians and veterinarian nurses can safely perform euthanasia.

Safety

I believe businesses have an ethical duty to be transparent and honest to the public to prevent deceit and trickery. As such, I created an entire section of transparency at the top of the website detailing my costs and revenue

Euthanasia is inherently an emotional process, and owners can struggle with the process. Farewell From Home will do everything in its power to support the owner should they require our assistance and to accommodate any request the owner has for the euthanasia process, as long as it does not conflict with the above values.
