Afterhours home euthanasia
The purpose of this page is to provide a detailed explanation of the process. You are not required to read through this but it can help some people prepare.

1
Initial Stages
Please contact Dr Jarrod on 0428 666 261. He will request your address, your pet's name and weight. Jarrod will gather the necessary items and begin the trip to your address. A form can be completed and printed in advance, but it is not a necessary step.
2
Arrival
Once Jarrod arrives, he will reconfirm your details on a form and discuss payment (bank transfer or cash) and aftercare. From there, a sedation called "zoletil" will be administered. The sedation is necessary to ensure your pet is unaware of the final process, which may cause uncertainty or anxiety. Whilst the sedation works over 3-6 minutes, you will have the opportunity to be with your beloved pet and say your final farewells.
3
Sedation
Once the sedation has set in, a catheter is placed into a front leg vein. This is a difficult process in geriatric patients, especially if they are suffering from certain diseases; therefore, it may not always be successful. Once placed, a green medication called "lethobarb" is administered. This is the final step of the process. Lethobarb does not cause any pain. Instead, it slows the heart rate and breathing until the final breath is taken in your pet's sleep.
4
Aftercare
As discussed on the home page, there are several aftercare options available to clients. If private or communal cremation aftercare is chosen, your pet will be placed on a stretcher and transported off the property into cold storage. When available, your pet will be transferred to the chosen crematorium (such as Lawnswood), and the crematorium will contact you to finalise the final steps of aftercare.
